How Georgia Sweet Peach Started Building Confidence and Leash Control in Dayton, OH

At A Glance

Georgia Sweet Peach is a 2-year-old Cane Corso who started training with Chance at Off Leash K9 Training of Dayton, Ohio. She had completed some basic training before, mainly commands like “sit,” but her previous training was mostly done in a facility and did not fully transfer into real-world environments.

When Georgia left the house, she became stressed and anxious. She pulled hard on the leash, jumped on her owner, and struggled to listen when out and about. During her starting assessment, Chance noted that Georgia was visibly stressed and worried about everything happening around her.

Dog: Georgia Sweet Peach
Breed: Cane Corso
Age: 2 years old
Location: Dayton, OH
Program: Dog Training Program
Main Issues: Anxiety outside the home, leash pulling, jumping on the owner, poor listening in public, and difficulty responding under stress
Outcome: Goal of stronger confidence, better leash control, improved listening, and calmer behavior outside the home

The Challenge

Before training, Georgia already knew a few basics, including “sit” and “down.” The problem was not that she had never learned anything. The bigger issue was that she struggled to use those skills when she was stressed, anxious, or outside the familiar environment of home.

Her owner shared that Georgia became very anxious once she left the house. She pulled hard on the leash, jumped on her mom, and did not listen well when they were out in public. During the starting assessment, Georgia was clearly worried and distracted by everything around her.

Georgia needed help with:

  • Anxiety outside the home
  • Leash pulling
  • Jumping on her owner
  • Poor listening when stressed
  • Building confidence in new environments
  • Improving obedience outside of a facility setting
  • Learning to respond more reliably around distractions

The Training Approach

Chance’s first step was to assess what Georgia already knew and how her stress affected her ability to respond. Since she had some basic command knowledge, the focus was not just on teaching new commands. The goal was to help those commands become reliable in real-life environments.

Training focused on:

  • Building confidence outside the home
  • Helping Georgia settle in unfamiliar environments
  • Improving leash manners and reducing pulling
  • Strengthening command reliability under stress
  • Reinforcing sit, down, come, and place
  • Reducing jumping through a clearer structure
  • Practicing obedience around real-world distractions

Because Georgia became stressed when away from home, the training needed to combine obedience work with confidence-building and consistent exposure.

The Results

This transcript shows Georgia’s starting point before the next phase of training. Chance noted that Georgia knew sit and down, but she was too stressed to listen reliably during the assessment.

What improved as the training goal:

  • Better confidence outside the home
  • Improved leash control
  • More reliable command response
  • Reduced jumping on her owner
  • Calmer behavior when out and about
  • Stronger obedience around distractions

Trainer Insight

Some dogs can perform commands in a facility or at home, but struggle when the environment changes. For anxious dogs like Georgia, training must focus on helping the dog stay calm enough to think, listen, and respond. Confidence building, leash structure, and real-world practice are key to helping obedience become reliable outside the home.
