You've Got Questions?
We've got answers!
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes. Off Leash K9 Training Dayton offers a first-lesson satisfaction guarantee. If you are not completely satisfied after the first lesson, that lesson is free. This gives owners a chance to see the training approach, understand how the system works, ask questions, and feel confident before continuing with the program. Contact the Dayton team to discuss your dog’s needs and choose the right training option.
Will my dog benefit from this training?
Your dog will benefit tremendously! Most behavior problems (biting, chewing, jumping, etc) are based off of a lack of exercise, discipline, and out of boredom! With this training, your dog is receiving top-quality obedience training, which in turn, allows you to give your dog freedom to run around OFF-LEASH and play! So by doing this training your dog is not bored because it is learning and being stimulated, it is running freely off-leash so it is getting exercise, and it is getting obedience/discipline! Not only does all of this greatly benefit your dog, but it also benefits you and your family!
Remember, if you do not employ your dog and give it a job to do (training), it will become self-employed. A self-employed dog will cost YOU money!
What is an e-collar and how does it work?
An e-collar is a remote training collar used to help communicate with your dog during obedience training. The handler holds a remote that sends a low-level stimulation through the collar, which is used to get the dog’s attention and reinforce known commands. It is not intended to punish, scare, or harm the dog. Instead, the goal is to help the dog stay focused, respond reliably, and understand what the handler is asking, especially around distractions or when working at a distance.
At Off Leash K9 Training Dayton, e-collars are included in several obedience and board-and-train programs, and trainers show owners how the equipment is introduced and used properly. If you have questions about whether e-collar training is right for your dog, contact the Dayton team to discuss your dog’s age, temperament, behavior, and training goals.
Will the e-collar hurt my dog?
No. During our first meeting we will put the e-collar on your arm and you will feel how mild the stimulation is. We will also stimulate ourselves with the e-collar to show you that it will not hurt your dog. One common misconception is the e-collar will burn their skin. This is false. Other people think that it is like being shocked with a taser, this is also false. We are dog trainers because we LOVE dogs and we would never do anything to harm them in any way! Furthermore, we would never do anything to a dog, that we will not do ourselves.
Where do we conduct these private sessions?
Contact your local OLK9 Certified Trainer for the location of their training.
Generally, we do not like to train dogs inside the house! Why? It is easy for dogs to listen when they are in their own home. It is a familiar environment. If your pet trains in an unfamiliar environment, with countless distractions, they will listen to your commands anywhere.
How much time per day do I need to train my dog?
The great thing about this training is that you don’t have to set a specific amount of time aside per day in order to train your dog! We will teach you how to incorporate this training into your daily routine.
How long will this training take?
Basic Obedience is generally done in FOUR lessons.
- Lesson 1: “Come” and “Sit.” Off-Leash
- Lesson 2: “Extended Sit” and “Down.” Extended sit meaning your dog will sit until you release it
- Lesson 3: “Place” and “Extended Down.” Place meaning your dog will sit on a specific object you point to (chair, bench, etc)
- Lesson 4: “Loose Leash Walking.” Meaning, your dog will walk right beside of you while on a leash.
If you are interested in advanced obedience after you and your dog has completed the basic obedience, it is also available!
At what age can we start e-collar training?
E-collar training generally starts when a dog is at least 5 months old. Younger puppies can still begin learning through clicker training, treats, marker work, basic commands, potty-training routines, and other reward-based methods. Starting with age-appropriate training helps build a strong foundation before moving into more advanced obedience work. Contact the Dayton team if you are unsure which training option is right for your dog’s age, behavior, and goals.
What if I have a puppy that is not 5 months old?
Not a problem! We can still train your pup using the clicker/treat method! This will give your new pup a good foundation for basic obedience! Additionally, We can teach you how to house train your puppy. He/ she will learn how to let you know they need to go. So they don’t continue having accidents in the house.
What is clicker training?
A clicker is a small device that makes a distinct “click” noise. This is used to instantly mark the desired behavior. Then, it is immediately followed with a treat! This enables the dog to learn the commands much faster because you are instantly “marking” the correct behavior. In return, the dog knows it has not done what you are asking it to do until it hears the distinct “click.”
What types of dog training programs do you offer?
We offer private obedience lessons, one- and two-week board-and-train programs, puppy training, reward-based Marker Mastery, aggressive-dog training, and therapy-dog preparation. The right program depends on your dog’s age, temperament, behavior, and training goals.

Can professional dog training help an aggressive or reactive dog?
Professional training may help improve obedience, handler control, and responses around triggers. The eight-week Aggressive Dog Training program is intended for dogs experiencing aggression or reactivity around other dogs. Because these cases vary, owners should contact a Dayton dog trainer before purchasing a program. No responsible trainer can guarantee that serious aggression will disappear completely.
Can dog training help stop biting, jumping, barking, or other unwanted behaviors?
Training can help owners manage and redirect behaviors such as jumping, excessive barking, leash pulling, nipping, chewing, and poor impulse control. The appropriate program depends on why the behavior is happening and whether it involves excitement, fear, frustration, anxiety, or aggression. Dogs with a bite history should receive a professional evaluation through the contact page before a program is selected.
What is a board-and-train program?
A board-and-train program is an immersive service in which your dog stays with a professional trainer and receives structured training throughout the program. Dayton’s board-and-train options may cover recall, sit, down, place, leash walking, off-leash obedience, greeting manners, door manners, meal manners, and working around distractions.
Board and train is different from standard dog boarding in Dayton, which provides care while an owner is away rather than a complete obedience curriculum.
Is board and train better than private dog training lessons?
Board and train may be suitable for owners seeking concentrated daily training and an immersive environment. Private lessons may be better for owners who want to participate directly, practice between sessions, and develop their handling skills throughout the process. Compare the available private lessons and board-and-train programs before choosing.
Can you train my dog to be reliable off-leash?
The two-week board-and-train program includes recall, loose-leash and off-leash walking, and obedience around people and dogs. However, responsible off-leash activity also depends on your dog’s progress, temperament, prey drive, environment, local leash laws, and continued practice at home. Learn more about the benefits and safety considerations of off-leash training.
Do you offer in-home dog training?
A standard in-home training package is not currently listed on the Dayton pricing page. Private sessions are generally conducted in environments where dogs can practice around unfamiliar distractions. Contact the team to ask about session locations and availability for your area through the Dayton dog training contact page.
How much does professional dog training cost?
The cost depends on the selected program, number of lessons, included equipment, training goals, and whether you choose private lessons or board and train. View the current fees and program details on the Plans and Pricing page. Owners of dogs with aggression, reactivity, or a bite history should contact the team before purchasing.
Can dog training help stop my dog from pulling on the leash?
Yes. Professional training can improve leash manners by teaching your dog to follow the handler, respond to commands, and walk without constant pulling. Basic Obedience, Basic Marker Mastery, and the two-week board-and-train program include loose-leash walking or leash-handling skills. Compare these dog obedience training options.
Can dog training help with separation anxiety?
Obedience training may help establish structure, routines, confidence, boundaries, and greater independence. However, the Dayton website does not currently list a program specifically dedicated to clinical separation anxiety. Owners should contact a trainer for an evaluation. Severe cases may also require support from a veterinarian or qualified veterinary behavior professional.
What basic commands will my dog learn during obedience training?
Depending on the program, your dog may learn come, sit, extended sit, down, extended down, place, extended place, out, off, heel, and loose-leash walking. Board-and-train programs may also cover recall, greeting manners, waiting at doors, meal manners, and obedience around distractions. Full command lists are available on the dog training pricing page.
Do you offer positive reinforcement dog training?
Yes. Basic Marker Mastery uses reward-based training methods, including treats, praise, marker training, a clicker, and a slip lead. Younger puppies can also begin with clicker-and-treat training before they are old enough for other programs. Learn more about the available positive reinforcement and Marker Mastery options.
Can you help my dog listen around distractions?
Yes. Several programs teach dogs to respond around people, other dogs, unfamiliar environments, and everyday distractions. Training may include recall, place, heel, extended commands, greeting manners, and off-leash control. Continued owner practice is important, and this guide explains why consistency supports lasting dog-training results.
Can you train a stubborn dog?
Dogs described as stubborn may need clearer communication, stronger motivation, greater consistency, or more practice around distractions. The Basic and Advanced Obedience program and two-week board and train provide additional training time and more advanced distraction work. A trainer can help determine the appropriate option after learning about your dog. Start by reviewing the available training packages.
Do you offer service-dog training or therapy-dog preparation?
The Dayton pricing page lists an eight-week Therapy Dog Preparation program. It is designed to prepare dogs and handlers for therapy-related testing and environments. The website states that successful teams may be evaluated for certification through Therapy Pets Unlimited. This should not be confused with task-specific service-dog training. Review the current therapy-dog preparation program or contact the team for eligibility details.
What happens after my dog completes a board-and-train program?
The two-week board-and-train program includes a two-hour, one-on-one turnover session. During this session, the trainer explains the commands your dog learned and shows you how to handle, reinforce, and maintain the training at home. Continued practice and consistent expectations are essential. Review the complete board-and-train program details.
Is my dog too old or too young for obedience training?
Dogs of many ages can benefit from training. Basic Marker Mastery is listed for dogs of all ages and uses reward-based methods. The website generally recommends waiting until a dog is at least five months old before beginning e-collar training. Younger puppies can start with clicker, marker, and reward-based instruction. Contact the team to determine which age-appropriate training program fits your dog.
